evaluation activity five: How did you attract/ address your target audience?

I feel these front covers are fairly similar. Firstly, both magazines have the same aged target audience (17-30). The straplines on both of the front covers are fairly similar, they both contain a black background with writing on, both of them also use a contrasting look, white on black. NME has used four colours whereas I have stuck to using three colours throughout my project. However, they both use black, white and red. The genre of music is very similar mine is based around mainly art rock/ indie music and NME is also well known for introducing bands of this particular genre however, NME offers a wider variety. My unique selling point is the focus around gigs, NME also offers this. The overall set out of these magazines are similar, the barcodes are in the same place, they both contain a fair amount of text and boxes. Howver, NME contains more pictures, whereas I wanted to keep my magazine front cover as simple as I could.
The mode of address for each of these magazines are very similar. Both magazines construct a light hearted, friendly, humorous approach to the target audience. They both use the same types of punctuation such as exclamation marks, which are commonly used to highlight an important issue/point in the magazine using a more friendly approach. The mode of address for each of these magazines are informal, the language is the type of language the target audience for each would use and I feel by both of the magazines doing this that they are, to the reader, a friend.

  1. In this you have to explore the mode of address of your magazine. Look at the notes I emailed you in class about how to improve the evaluation.
