Front cover

The large, black, retro title: I choose this title as I felt it fitted really well with my retro-style front cover. I really liked the way it is 3-D, I felt it made the title look more dominant and create a layered effect.

The medium sized images: I choose to slant these images as I felt it created a more quirky and more interesting look. I also decided to add an outer glow as I felt this also contributed to the layered look I wanted to create.

The small, black writing: I choose the colour black as I felt it fitted well with the background. I decided to choose a quite bold font so it stood out and was visible. However, I think I should have choosen a different colour as it doesn't stand out from a distance. I also slanted some of the writing, to add to the quirky look.

The black, white and red film strip with images inside: I feel this also adds to the quirky effect i wanted to create. I coloured in the red sections in on photoshop, I felt this helped to draw the attention to the pictures and made the front cover look more colourful and interesting. I felt the film strip would also appeal to students.

The main image of a person upside down and black and white union jack background: As the image was originally in a park and the background was very green, I decided to rub it out on photoshop, and insert a new background. I decided, after trying a few different colours, to have a black and white union jack background as this also added to my quirky effect, and I felt it looked young and fresh. I decided to have an image of a student as my background, as It came up to be the most popular on the questionnaire and I felt it would draw the students attention more. I also felt by having a comical image, it would fit with the target audience.

Overall, I am pleased with the results of my front cover. I think I have targeted the target audience quite well, by covering the aspects in which I think they would be interested in. I like my title and the main image, and how i have incorperated everything together, by sticking to my theme of quirky. I think by creating a layered effect with the 3-D font, and using outer glow on the images, It has made it look a lot more interesting. However, I think to make my front cover more successful, I should have changed the font on the smaller writing, As, the background is very buzy and a small font does not stand out. I think I should have also incorperated the red from the film strip a bit more into the design.

I feel liked a have learnt a lot from making my contents page and front cover. I have learnt a lot about the importance of approaching the target audience and many different photo shop techniques such as; the use of lines to create an interesting effect on my contents page. I have also learnt that it is sometimes better to keep things simple. For example, for my contents page I decided to keep the background white as I felt it looked better.
