Evaluation activity six: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

We used the website blogger to document our tasks. This is the place all our work is stored.I have learnt a few things on this website, we have learnt how to upload pictures and videos, I have also found out how to copy and paste from a word document by editing the Html. Also, I have learnt how to blog my flickr annotations onto the site.
We used Adobe Photoshop to create our double page spreads, contents and front covers. I have learnt many skills including; How to feather pictures, and more simple skills such as changing the filters for a more graphic effect and merging the layers so my work is more organised.I have learnt the importance of using the rulers to create a much more organised and neat look to my magazine products. I feel this project has really given me a much better understanding of photo shop. I gained a basic knowledge of how to use the program by completing the preliminary task.
We used this website to annotate and analyse pictures, by adding notes, some of which were our own work, some were existing magazines. This is a more organised and efficient way to organise out work.
This piece of equipment helps with image stabilisation, it has also helped me drastically with angles.
We used compact digital cameras to shoot our pictures. As I do Photography along side media, I already had a fair amount of understanding the basics of cameras. For the shots I took in college I used a digital compact camera. On this, I learnt how to use the multi shot option and change the settings due to the amount of light in the room etc. The pictures I took outside of college were shot on my digital SLR, I changed the apertures and shutter speeds to create a more interesting and proffessional look.
We have used Web 2.0 to achieve our work. I feel that eventhough using the web is an efficient, quick and easy way to produce work on it does have some disadvantages. Firstly, If you do not have the acquired needs to used this program you have to learn them in a short space of time which could lead to inaccurate results and data. It is known to be unreliable, for example if you have used google to find out some demographics and physcographics about your target audience it would be best to go on a few different websites just to make sure they are correct before relying and using them in your blog. The web is known to crash and freeze which could result in you losing your work. However I feel using Web 2.0 is a lot more effecting compared to more traditional approaches such as essays. It is a lot more quick, Instead of having to look in books for information which is much more tedious and time consuming, you can easily read and understand what you are looking for on the web. Also, you can look at other peoples work on the web for inspiration and better understanding.

  1. This is another post that needs development. Include a discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of the Web 2.0 approach to planning and evaluating your work, compared to more traditional approaches (essays etc). The former is not necessarily always better than the latter.
