I feel my music magazine will have a quite a small readership as it appeals to those who have a certain interest in Indie music; It does not really offer a varied music taste. I based my magazine on NME and Art rocker, as these magazines cater for the music genre I was going for so therefore their style was the kind of style I wanted to achieve. NME is published by a large publishing company -IPC (http://www.ipcmedia.com/). I felt this wouldn’t really suit my magazine as all of the magazines published by this company have very high readerships and are well known because they have wide spread distribution into high street outlets. I then looked for what company published Artrocker and on an August 2008 issue, it said the publisher was Warners west street bourne (http://www.warnersgroup.co.uk/) I then looked on the website at their brands they produced, they published magazines such as writing magazines and those of specialised interests. This would suit my magazine well as it has a specialised interest. However, when I looked at their brands, Artrocker was not one of them, I have looked on the Artrocker’s official website and unfortunately I cannot locate a publisher. But I feel that Warners group publishing would suit my music magazine well. They publish magazine of niche hobbies and interests, the only real difference is they only offer subscriptions whereas my magazine is simply a buy monthly.
I feel my magazine would have quite a small circulation such as 4,000 a month. My magazine is really only directed to a specific type of person so anyone who does not fit in this is less likely to buy and read it or refer it to their friends.
Due to the predicted low circulation, my magazine would not be distributed in places such as WH smith or supermarkets. Instead, I think it could be distributed in shops such as Topman or H&M or places such as gig venues as these are the types of places my target audience would go to and then see it.
Good. What would your target circulation be? Where would you distribute it? Presumably the TA would be too small for supermarkets and smaller high street outlets?
