Evaluation activity two: How does your media product represent particular social groups?

I feel these images have some similarities and some differences. In my image, my models are sat on top of a wooden bench, they are all sat down, looking relaxed and to a certain extent their expressions show seriousness, this is the same in the image of the maccabees.

Both pictures have a relaxed feel, this is echoed by the models posture aswell as their expressions. The lighting in both images are similar, both have natural light- I feel this adds to the relaxed and natural look to both pictures as the light is not overpowering. The models in each picture are wearing similar clothing, casual hoodies. I feel this helps relate to my target audience which is 17-30 year olds as this is the typical types of clothes they would wear. All the models are wearing dark colours which could connote a more dark, mysterious, 'something hidden' feel to the pictures. The angles in both pictures are fairly different, the shot of the maccabees is a medium shot as you can not see all of the models whereas the shot I took is more of a long shot as you can see a lot more of my models. The angles used are quite similar they are both taken at eye level. The image of the maccabees looks more like art photography as it is more set up for example; the cups with the colourful liquid in. Whereas the shot I took looks more natural and spontanous, they look more at ease. I think as my models are not making eye contact with the camera that this makes my shot look more natural compared to the shot of the maccabees who all have serious expressions and are making eye contact at the camera.

I feel my picture and the picture of the maccabees are representations of male youths. Attitude wise, they look like they are quite lazy yet down to earth. They look pally and comfortable with each other which could connote that they are all friendly, this also helps to relate to my target audience as they are known to be down to earth friendly people. Personality wise I think both images connote a level of seriousness which could then go on to connoting high ambitions. These connotations on attitudes and personality traits, I think, are implied in each image, both images are natural which helps to analyse this accurately. To some extent, I think they depart from the typical male representations about male youth, They both don't particulary show their ambition in music, or any ambition at all really, apart from their facial expressions. However, they are dressed in a way which could be seen as relating to music.However, I feel they do also reinforce to the typical male representations about male youth, as they are both taken with friends/ band members. Males are usually known to be seen with groups of friends and to be seen looking out for one another.
